Where Aptis is valid

Autonomous communities and oposiciones

Regions such as Andalusia, Valencia, Madrid, Murcia or Castilla-La Mancha recognise Aptis for public-sector exams and language accreditation. Always check your community's current call.

Spanish universities

More than 40 universities accept Aptis ESOL, including UNED, University of Alcalá, Politécnica de Madrid, Complutense and Francisco de Vitoria. Each sets its own required level; confirm it with your university.

Levels it certifies

Aptis General certifies from A1 to B2, and a 'C' result appears as C1 since September 2024. For C1-C2 there is also Aptis Advanced.

Which universities accept Aptis General?
More than 40 Spanish universities accept Aptis ESOL to certify English level, including UNED, University of Alcalá, Politécnica de Madrid, Complutense and Francisco de Vitoria, among others. The required level (usually B1 or B2) is set by each university, so confirm it in the British Council's official recognition list and with your institution.
How many points does Aptis give in oposiciones?
In teaching oposiciones, English proficiency is a valued merit, usually around 2-3 points depending on the autonomous community, the corps and the level certified. The exact scale and required level (usually B2 or C1) depend on each regional call.
Can Aptis certify the B1 for my degree?
Yes. Most Spanish universities accept Aptis General to certify the B1 (and in some cases B2) required to obtain your degree. As it is multi-level, a single test gives you the level matching your result.

Aptis General or Aptis Advanced?

Is Aptis useful for work?
Yes. Aptis certifies your English level for employers in selection, promotion or advancement. Some organisations also use Aptis itself to assess the level of their candidates or employees.
Is Aptis recognised in Latin America?
Yes. Aptis is a British Council global exam. In Colombia it is endorsed by the Ministry of Education and valid for the English graduation requirement (accepted by universities such as Los Andes, Javeriana or SENA). In Peru many universities accept it (PUCP, U. de Lima, U. del Pacífico, Cayetano Heredia, UPC). In Mexico it can grant the CENNI from the SEP. Specific recognition depends on each country and institution.

Is Aptis valid for Spanish nationality?
No. Spanish nationality requires the DELE A2 in Spanish, not an English exam like Aptis. Aptis certifies English level for oposiciones, university or work.
