What's worth knowing

Which level, B1 or B2?

B1 is the most common requirement to complete the degree. Some double degrees, specialisations or bilingual tracks require B2. The teaching master's usually requires B1.

Aptis General, not Advanced

To certify the B1 or B2 of your degree, Aptis General is enough (it certifies up to B2, and C1 since September 2024). Aptis Advanced is for C1-C2.

Which English level do I need to complete my degree?

At most Spanish universities the requirement to obtain the degree is B1, though some double degrees, specialisations or bilingual tracks require B2. Always check your university's rules.

Does Aptis General work to certify at university?

Yes. Aptis General is recognised by over 40 Spanish universities to certify the degree's English level. As it is multi-level, a single test gives you the level matching your result (A1 to B2, and C1 since September 2024).

Do I need Aptis General or Advanced?

For the B1 or B2 required by the degree, Aptis General is enough. Aptis Advanced is designed to certify C1 and C2, which are rarely required to complete a degree.

Is it valid for the teaching master's?

Yes. Universities such as Complutense accept Aptis General (usually B1) for access to the teaching master's. The exact level is set by each university.

Does the certificate expire?

No. The Aptis ESOL certificate has no expiry date, so you take it once and it lasts your whole degree.
