Frequently asked questions

How does the Cambridge Scale work?

Cambridge uses a unified scale (80-230) where each exam has a range. B2 First: 140-190 (pass at 160). C1 Advanced: 160-210 (pass at 180). The score is calculated from your raw marks in each component.

What do Grade A, B and C mean?

Grade C = pass at the exam level (B2 for FCE, C1 for CAE). Grade B = solid pass. Grade A = you demonstrate the level above (C1 for FCE, C2 for CAE). All grades receive a certificate.

Can I use this calculator with my practice test scores?

Yes. Enter your raw scores from your practice test (number of correct answers per component). For Writing and Speaking, use the average subscale mark (0-5). The calculator estimates your Cambridge Scale score.

How is Aptis scored?

Each skill is scored 0-50 and receives an independent CEFR level (A1 to C). Grammar & Vocabulary (Core) does not receive a CEFR level but serves as a tiebreaker at level boundaries.

How accurate is this estimate?

It is an approximation based on official Cambridge and British Council conversion tables. Actual scores may vary slightly by exam session (Cambridge uses statistical equating).
