Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the B2 First diagnostic?

All 15 questions test C1-exclusive structures: inversions (Not only did she...), mixed conditionals, subjunctive, nominalizations, and advanced impersonal passives. These patterns are not tested at B2.

Do I need to have passed B2 to take this test?

Not required, but recommended. If most questions seem incomprehensible, B2 First might be a better starting point. If you understand the sentences but hesitate on answers — you're in C1 range.

What competencies does it assess at C1 level?

Advanced tenses, perfect modals (must/should have done), inversion with negative adverbs, mixed conditionals, formal subjunctive, complex reporting verbs, concessive connectors, and nominalizations.

Is it reliable for knowing if I'm ready for the CAE?

15 questions detect frequent error patterns — they don't replace a full mock exam. But they identify the grammar traps that Cambridge C1 most exploits in candidates coming from B2.

What if I score vulnerable in several competencies?

That's normal when starting C1 — the structures are significantly more complex than B2. You can practise with personalised exercises on lingaly that adapt to your specific weaknesses.
