Frequently asked questions
What level does this diagnostic assess?
Aptis General assesses from A1 to C. This diagnostic covers the A2-B2 range where most candidates are. Questions follow the G1 (Grammar MCQ) format from the Core component.
How is it different from the B2 First diagnostic?
The Aptis format is more direct: independent sentences without long context. It evaluates fundamental grammar (articles, prepositions, tenses) rather than complex structures. If you're preparing for Aptis, this test is more relevant.
What competencies does it assess?
Articles (a/an/the), prepositions (at/in/on), tenses (Present Perfect vs Past Simple), modals (must/should/don't need to), conditionals, infinitive/gerund, comparatives, reported speech, passive voice, and phrasal verbs.
Is it valid for Aptis for Teachers or Aptis Advanced?
The Core component (Grammar & Vocabulary) is the same across all Aptis variants. This diagnostic is valid for Aptis General, Aptis for Teachers, and Aptis Advanced.
What do I do after the diagnostic?
You receive a map of your grammar vulnerabilities. You can start practising on lingaly with exercises adapted to the Aptis format that personalise based on your errors.
